London, Aug 10 (ANI): A new study has revealed that stress and dieting can lead to a positive cannabis test long after the drug was last used.
Lead researcher Jonathon Arnold, from the University of Sydney in Australia, says that the main psychoactive ingredient of cannabis tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is instantly absorbed by fat cells and over the next few days is slowly diffused back into the blood.
Since THC is taken up by fat more readily than it diffuses out, the researcher says that continual intake means some THC can remain in the fat cells.
It has been suggested that stored THC can be released at a later date in situations where the body’s fat is rapidly broken down.
During the study, Arnold and colleague Iain McGregor exposed THC-laden fat cells taken from rats to the stress hormone ACTH.
The researchers found that the hormone increased the speed of release of THC from the cells.
They later injected rats with 10 milligrams per kilogram of THC (equivalent to a person smoking between five and 10 cannabis cigarettes, depending on their strength) every day for 10 days.
Two days later, they injected a third of the rats with ACTH, deprived another third of food for 24 hours, with the rest as controls.
They found that rats that were not given food had double the blood level of THC acid, a metabolite of THC, compared with the controls.
The other group exposed to ACTH also showed a statistically significant increase in THC acid levels.
Arnold said that the main implication of the work could be for legal cases in which athletes or employees have tested positive for cannabis but claim they haven’t recently consumed it,
“But the clincher would be for us to show these results in humans,” New Scientist magazine quoted him as saying.
The study has been published in the British Journal of Pharmacology. (ANI)

Celina Jaitley who recently relaunched the gay magazine ‘Bombay Dost’ has been at the receiving end of the ire of Homophobes!
Ever since the re-launch of the defunct magazine a few days back, Celina has been inundated by mails on her official website. The support showed by Celina has triggered extreme reactions from people. Though there has been tremendous support from people all over the world, what has astounded the actress is that majority of these irate mails have come from women!!! These mails have gone on to call her names, use derogatory and abusive language and denounce her.
Celina elaborates saying, ”Numerous intolerant and homophobic people have sent me abusive messages regarding my gay rights activism and launch of Bombay Dost on various websites including my own. It does not deter me from my cause but it saddens me that people have so much hatred not only towards sexual minorities but towards people who show them support. It is so unfortunate that people have not stopped their hatred against the gay community but have only learnt to mask it. My struggle has only just begun and I thank all those who stand by me in this human rights and human dignity issue.”
The actress, who starred in the blockbuster GOLMAAL RETURNS, has always campaigned for the rights of gays and has actively supported them in every endeavour earning the epithet of the ‘Most Queer-friendly public icon’. Celina has extended her active support be it walking the streets hand in hand with the gays, protesting against the criminalization of homosexuality or setting up groups on her official website and social networking sites for people from all walks of life to lend their support and love.
This extreme reaction that her support for gay’s rights has elicited a stronger determination in this fiery lady to bring together all the supporters.
Taking all the flak in her stride she says unfazed, ”Despite all the hate mail from all homophobic groups, I will not cease to continue what I started. I’ve learnt one thing in life – people even more than things have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed and redeemed; never throw out anyone…”
For this, she solicits every supporter to join the communities promoting gay rights so that every individual can exercise his / her right to their sexuality without fear of being marginalized.
Celina puts in a last word, ”There are critics for everything a celebrity does so does that mean I must stop living and listening to my heart? I’m happy to do this for all my gay friends.”
She ends with an appeal to all like-minded people – Just stand by me

Washington, Apr 24 (ANI): Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus has revealed that she never asks her dad Billy Ray for advice on her love life, as he is rarely sympathetic about it.

“Dad just doesn’t get it. He’s just like, ‘Suck it up and get over it! You’ll find another one! There’s more fish in the sea and he wasn’t that good-looking anyway!’ He actually did say that once,” Contactmusic quoted her as telling Hello magazine.
“He’s a harsh man to my boyfriends. He’s usually cool with them when they’re with me… But once it’s over – once they dump me or I dump them – then he’s always down for bashing them,” she added. (ANI)

London, Apr 24 (ANI): Jennifer Hudson has laughed off rumours suggesting that she’s pregnant.
Essence magazine had earlier alleged the Dreamgirls actress/singer was expecting her first child with fiance David Otunga, claiming they had received confirmation “through two sources close to” Hudson, reports The Daily Express.
However, the star’s representative has dismissed the happy news, saying there is “no, no, no, no way” the rumours are true, reports TheCelebrityTruth.com.
Hudson, who was a contestant at “American Idol”, saw the darkest period of her life when her mother, brother and nephew were murdered in Chicago.
The beauty’s estranged brother-in-law William Balfour was later charged with the killings.
Hudson returned to the stage on February 1, singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the Super Bowl.
A week later, she won her first Grammy Award for best R and B album. (ANI)

India’s Congress party president Sonia Gandhi and industrialists Ratan Tata and Mukesh Ambani are among the finalists for Time magazine’s 100 most influential people of 2009 that also includes US President Barack Obama.
The first African-American President of the US is currently ranked 13th, while the top position is held by a person who goes by the name ‘Moot’, the founder of 4chan.org, a website for posting images and discussions anonymously.
Gandhi, who is leading the ruling Congress party’s bid for a re-election in the coming Parliamentary polls, is ranked 43Â?ahead of Tata (102), the maker of the world’s cheapest car Nano and Ambani (169), who the publication referred to as ‘petrol prince.’
The 203 finalists includes seven people of Indian origin. The four others are are cola-queen Indra Nooyi of Pepsico, movie moghul Ronnie Screwvala of UTV, public face for Washington’s Troubled Asset Relief Programme Neel Kashkari, and Harvard-educated management consultant Ram Charan.
Besides, Slumdog Millionaire-fame British filmmaker Danny Boyle, who hit the headlines with the Oscar-winning movie shot in Mumbai slums, is also among the finalists.
Time would publish the final list later in the year. In a continuing online poll on Time’s website, Screwvala is currently top-ranked among Indians at 33rd overall place, Nooyi is at 89, Kashkari 187 and Charan 193.
The site of moot (pseudonym), the highest ranked person at present, is said to have been started in 2003 by a then 15-year-old student from New York City.
On Gandhi, 62, who has figured on Time’s 100 most influential people list twice before, the publication said that the “the Italian-born head of India’s most influential political party is beloved by her constituents, not only because of her family history (she came to power after her husband Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated) but also because of her efforts to combat poverty.”
However, in a negative for her, the Indian National Congress party President “has been bogged down by a public spat with one of her rivals,” it said, without specifying who her rival is.
Among those from outside India, the prominent names include US First Lady Michelle Obama, former US President George Bush, US secretary of state Hillary Clinton and US finance secretary Tim Geithner.
Sarah Palin, who ran for US vice-president’s office, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, Pakistan’s army chief Ashfaq Kayani, Tibetan leader Dalai Lama, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Hu Jintao and US treasury chief Ben Bernanke are among other finalists.
Besides, high-profile businessmen like Warren Buffett, Carlos Slim Helu, Rupert Murdoch, Steve Jobs, Jeff Immelt and Michael Bloomberg also find a place in the list.
There are celebrities from media, entertainment and sports such as Oprah Winfrey, Britney Spears, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Arnold Schwazznenger, Tiger Woods, Michael Phelps, Kate Winslet, Rafael Nadal, George Clooney, Tom Hanks and Jay Leno.
Interestingly, the finalists also include the alleged scamster Bernie Madoff and Thomas Beatie, who is popularly known as The Pregnant Man and has become a sort of icon in the transgender community with his second baby due in June.
About Obama, Time said: “He overcame the Clinton machine, the McCain brigade and America’s racial history to win nearly 53 per cent of the vote and a shot at what’s beginning to seem like the least enviable job in the world.”
But, “for a guy whose campaign was renowned for order, Obama’s Cabinet appointments have been a tad messy. But let’s face it: he’s the most powerful man in the world,” it added.

Washington, Mar 26 (ANI): Obamas surely believe in staying true to their roots. Although life has dramatically changed for Michelle Obama since she became first lady, her hairstylist remains the same till date.
Hairstylist Johnny Wright, popular in Chicago’s Wicker Park area, met Michelle Obama two years ago for an Essence magazine photo shoot, not long after Barack Obama announced his quest for the White House.
Two months into the Obama administration, Wright has become the first lady’s exclusive First Hairstylist, the White House confirmed this week.
“It’s exciting, absolutely, doing the first lady’s hair,” the Washington Post quoted him, as saying.
“She’s a great lady and I feel privileged to do her hair,” he added.
The 31-year-old says during the campaign, he was called in periodically to style Obama for such important events as the Democratic National Convention in Denver, including the day she gave her speech.
And more recently, he says, he was called in for her photo session for the much-noted March cover of Vogue magazine.
Since that Essence shoot two years ago, Wright had moved on to the Frederick Fekkai Salon on Melrose Place in West Hollywood.
In January, Wright says, he was notified that Obama wanted him as her exclusive stylist.
He says he had become her official stylist by the time he coiffed her for the official White House portrait, in which she smiles exquisitely from beneath a perfect modified bob wearing a designer ‘little black dress’ and double strands of pearls. (ANI)

Melbourne, Mar 13 (ANI): Singer Dannii Minogue has revealed that she was actually bullied by the British press to be thin like her sister, Kylie.
“I was 19 when I moved to London and the British press put a huge amount of pressure on me – they said I was too fat because I wasn’t the same size as my sister,” News.com.au quoted Dannii, as telling Who magazine.
Dannii revealed that she found it uncanny as to why people were bothered about her body, as she felt comfortable in her own skin.
“And you go, well, funny about that because we’re two different people. I definitely felt bullied, but that’s just the size I was,” she said.
“What was weird was that I felt comfortable in myself, I just couldn’t understand why it was a problem for everyone else. It wasn’t their body, they weren’t walking around in it,” she added.
Dannii, who was photographed for the magazine’s Bodies at Every Age issue, said that she was much happier than ever with her foxy figure.
“From 28 on, I started to feel really excited about finding a different type of body confidence,” she said.
“It just feels like you’re in your skin. I definitely feel like I’m getting better as I’m getting older,” she added. (ANI)

Cape Town (South Africa), Mar.13 (ANI): Australian captain Ricky Ponting is scared that the “glitz and glamour” of Twenty20 will overtake Test cricket in the popularity stakes.
“There’s a really dangerous thing going on at the moment. I gave the Bradman Oration last year and I stated that what I want for the next generation of Australians is to do what I’ve done: play 150 Tests and represent their country for a long time. But something in the back of my head says that their focus could switch from that to being attracted by the glitz and glamour of Twenty20 and the money that might be around,” Ponting told the Widen cricket magazine in an interview.
Cricket Australia’s 25 contracted players believed playing Test cricket would be seen as the ultimate achievement in a decade.
Almost half the players rated “balancing playing for your country and competing in the new Twenty20 competitions” as the most urgent issue facing world cricket, while a third thought Test cricket, in its current form, would become obsolete in 20 years’ time, reports Fox Sports.
In the interview, Ponting also warned about the hectic international scheduling as cricketing bosses failed to understand the impact of player burn-out.
He cited Mike Hussey’s current lean trot as an example, as the left-handed batsman seems to have been worn down playing all forms of the game.
“Administrators just don’t see burn-out. Players are the only ones who know when they can get themselves up to 100 per cent. As an international sportsman, you don’t want to be playing when you’re not at your absolute best,” Ponting said. (ANI)

New York, March 7 (ANI): Being the First Lady of United States has not stopped Michelle Obama from holding on to her sense of humour or so it seemed when she spoke about the pros and cons of life in the White House.
Featuring on the cover page of Oprah Winfrey’s O Magazine, the mum of two revealed how she kept her personal life going even under the scanner.
The Princeton University graduate cited instances of what is left of the occasion when she tries to catch up with her friends, who already know everything about her beforehand.
“That’s the thing about being the first lady: You try to catch your friends up on what’s happening in your life, and they’re like, ‘We know-we read it in the paper,’” the New York Post quoted her as saying in the April issue of the O Magazine.
“I like to imagine she said, “Um, no doi!” she added.
Recalling moments of her daily life now, she said: “Once someone on my staff e-mailed to tell me that the president was on his way. But you could already hear the helicopter, so it was like, well, no kidding.”
She continued: “The girls don’t move. I’m like, ‘You want to see Daddy landing in the helicopter?’ ‘No, that’s OK. We already saw it.” (ANI)

London, Mar 7 (ANI): The Palm Pre, dubbed the “iPhone killer”, has topped the list of the 100 hottest gadgets on the planet.
First unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January, the smartphone boasts a slide-out keyboard, 8GB of storage capacity, and a multi-touch 3.1 inch colour screen.
The device runs on new software called Web OS, which lets users directly connect to information stored on the Internet, known as the cloud, rather than through a desktop PC.
The Sony X-Series Walkman is at the second spot in the annual list compiled by gadget magazine T3.
It was closely followed by Nokia N97 phone with a slide out keyboard at the third position, reports The Telegraph.
Rounding off at fourth and fifth position are Philips 21:9 Cinema LCD TV and the state of the art satellite navigation system TomTom Go 940 LIVE, respectively.
However, not a single Apple gadget made the top ten, with the iPhone 3G being 14th on the list.
The Top 10 hottest gadgets are:
1. Palm Pre
2. Sony X-Series Walkman
3. Nokia N97
4. Philips 21:9 Cinema
5. TomTom Go 940 LIVE
6. Sony Reader PRS-700BC Reader Digital Book Touchscreen

Washington, Mar 07 (ANI): Hollywood actor Zac Efron has revealed that he is grateful to Leonardo DiCaprio for becoming his mentor, and is glad that he has found an elder brother in him.
The ‘High School Musical’ actor met Leonardo while attending a basketball game in Los Angeles.
“(When we first met) I was all, ‘Oh, hey!’ And he turned around and right there I had the ‘in’ (sic). And I was like, ‘I’m a big fan… I’d love to sit down and talk with you sometime.’ And he goes, ‘Right on,” Contactmusic quoted Efron as telling Elle magazine.
“A few nights later, I was at a Lakers game and I texted him, and he said he was coming. And this guy in a ball cap and coat with the collar up sits next to me. We talked the whole game, and he was just everything I thought he would be: smart, level-headed, charming, hilarious. You know, the older-brother vibe,” he added.
Meanwhile, DiCaprio has also compared Efron’s current pin-up status to his own early career. (ANI)
