London, Aug 22 (ANI): A music video by makers of the cult internet soap The Guild has ripped apart the likes of Beyonce and Black Eyed Peas to capture the number one slot in the UK iTunes chart.
(Do You Wanna Date My) Avatar was written to popularise the third series of the show, a tale of people playing an online role-playing game.
The lyrics have lines like: “You’ll never see my actual face. Our love will be in virtual space.”
Almost half a million people have accessed the video since its upload on Monday. The song itself occupies the second position in the Amazon US download chart.
Felicia Day, actress and writer of The Guild, was “a little bit surprised” by the phenomenal success of the track, and said the response by the audience had been “very cool”.
The BBC quoted Day as saying: “We beat the establishment and it fills me with glee.
“One of the things that drives me is to do things differently…. Most people would be working with a label and going through a lot of hoops.
“I think our success empowers everybody who feels like they can’t get their art out there.”
Day who plays Codex in the award-winning sitcom came up with the song when she was writing scripts for the new series, which is financed and distributed by Microsoft via Xbox Marketplace.
“We do 12 episodes per series, and we always owe an extra video for our Xbox order, and I thought ‘wouldn’t it be fun to do something musical? I was listening to really bad 1990s dance songs – C+C Music Factory, Stacey Q – and that was my inspiration,” she said.
TV scriptwriter Jed Whedon composed the music for the number.
The track also features an “intricate and clearly masterful” rap by The Guild co-stars Jeff Lewis and Sandeep Parikh. (ANI)

Washington, August 10 (ANI): Amy Winehouse apparently takes advice from a 13-year old girl, who happens to be her goddaughter.
The troubled singer considers young Dionne Bromfield to be her best friend, and says that they both have great fun together.
“All the time I’ll come to her and say, ‘Dionne, I don’t know what to do about this.’ She’ll say something that makes complete sense. Me and Dionne are best friends,” Contactmusic quoted her as saying.
She said: “We’re not just godmother and daughter, we’re best friends. All I do with Dionne is play guitar with her and sing with her. And kiss her and cuddle her.”
Winehouse, who has fought alcohol and drug addiction in recent years, mentioned that she preferred playing with the kid to focussing on her business.
She added: “I went into business about seven years ago when I first signed my publishing deal.
But I’m not good with that side of things, I’m good at the creativeness. The record company director is me. But all me and Dionne do is creative (activities), we’re not good at dealing with business. That’s not us. That’s bulls**t.”
Amy recently divorced from husband Blake Fielder-Civil. (ANI)

Amitabh Bachchan has always been a trend-setter, but this time he goes a step further by adding a personal touch to his character.
While planning a shoot for a special number for his forthcoming film ALADIN, directed by Sujoy Ghosh, Mr. Bachchan suggested doing his own styling for the song’s picturisation.
Apparently Mr. Bachchan was extremely excited about the groovy track picturised on himself and Riteish Deshmukh and while planning the shoot for the peppy number, expressed his desire to contribute to the song in his very own way: by choosing his own outfit for it!
Of course, the director willingly agreed and Mr. Bachchan went on to chose a deep red velvet jacket which added that extra touch of grandeur to his already larger-than-life persona in the film.
Now that’s what we call flaunting your style with panache!

during the shoot. After all, six men to woo a single woman is not a trifle matter,” Dia told a weekly magazine.
Asked if she would enjoy the same attention from six men in real life, the actor said: ”It will be fun!”
However, Dia has no problems in wooing her man if situation demands.
”I would love to chase a man who won’t pay me attention. I will literally dance to his tunes till he doesn’t tell me the reason for his actions,” smiled Dia

New Delhi, April 15 (IANS) It’s a dry spell at the box office thanks to the ongoing tussle between the producers and multiplex owners. Movie buffs, deprived of their usual dose of entertainment, are looking for other options.
‘Every week I would end up watching a film with family and friends. But now that there aren’t any movies worth watching, I’m planning to go to an amusement park, something that was being delayed for quite some time now,’ averred 22-year-old Leena Hiranandani working with a chartered accountancy firm.
The producer-multiplex tussle is over revenue sharing.
While the producers and distributors forum decided last month not to push any new releases in multiplexes after April 4, the films released in single screen theatres have not been worth watching.
‘Ek se Bure Do’, ‘Coffee House’, ‘Pal Pal Dil Ke Pass’ and ‘Royal Utsav’ – all received a cold shoulder from the audience.
‘People really need a good breather on weekends. And because of this fight between the producers and the multiplexes we are not getting what we really need – entertainment. Now I have no other option but to watch some classic movies at home,’ said Karan Sachdeva, a 24-year-old media professional.
Priyanka Anand, a housewife, said: ‘We love watching movies on weekends. But now that no new films are coming, I don’t know what to do. So finally we have decided to visit the monuments in Delhi.’
BPO professional Karma Saxena said: ‘I used to watch films with friends at weekends. Now when there are no films, I spend time with my family.’
Delhi-based post-graduation student Shweta Sharma is a Hindi film aficionado and going to the nearest multiplex with friends to catch a film was her idea of fun.
However, the present situation has left her weekend without any activity.
‘Watching movies is my passion. Every Friday I wait for new films. But it’s been long that I have gone to see one because of the multiplex tussle. It’s a sad situation for someone like me. Now I don’t have anything to do on the weekend,’ she said.
After a disastrous first quarter of 2009, this seems to be the industry’s worst dream coming true with hardly any films being confirmed for the next two months except ‘Kal Kissne Dekha’, releasing May 1 and ‘Kambakkth Ishq’, scheduled to open May 29.
According to filmmaker Mukesh Bhatt, Bollywood is bleeding.
‘We (the film industry) are bleeding. This strike is affecting the industry and we are suffering colossal losses,’ Bhatt, chairman of the United Forum for Bollywood Producers and Distributors, told IANS.
On being asked about the approximate percentage of loss that the industry is expected to suffer, he said: ‘As of now, we are not doing any number crunching but we are sure the loss will ultimately be huge.’
With no definite date till when the strike is supposed to be on, moviegoers would miss their share of entertainment for quite some time.
‘It’s such a sad situation that I’m not getting my dose of entertainment. I’m just hoping that the dry spell gets over soon. However, till then I’ll explore markets that I haven’t done for some time now. I’m sure shopping is the only thing that I can pass my time with, if there are no films,’ said 30-year-old Niharika Dhar.

Germany – Some holidaymakers want a maximum of fun; they down sangria from 10-litre buckets and party till dawn. But a growing number want the opposite: leisure instead of loud music, relaxation instead of rambunctiousness, and self-discovery instead of swilling.
Many tour operators are offering holidays for people seeking a chance to collect their thoughts and mull over matters they normally have too little time for. Though the circle is still small, “It’s a growing trend in tourism,” noted Professor Martin Lohmann, a tourism expert from the German city of Kiel.
Travellers in this group have varied expectations. Some would simply like time for themselves more than anything.
“After all, time is as much of a luxury for some people nowadays as a marble bathroom is for others,” said Lohmann. These people are not necessary interested in finding answers to life’s fundamental questions.
Others are, however, and also hope that the positive effects of stock-taking and reflection will outlast their holiday. “Some people may very well overestimate the therapeutic effects,” Lohmann said.
In 2003, German trend analyst Matthias Horx predicted the emergence of a new travel destination: Me. “The forecast is coming true,” remarked Susanne Leder, who wrote her doctoral dissertation on “leisure in tourism” and works at the resort region of Muellerthal in Echternach, Luxembourg.
Rather than expeditions to faraway places, “Journeys to one’s self” are gaining in popularity. “Selfness” is the new buzzword for holidays whose focus is on self-discovery, slowing down and inner peace. Leder calls holidays of this kind “leisure tourism,” which includes hiking tours, cabin stays, meditation retreats, desert treks and cloister sojourns.
She said there was a growing need for these types of holidays because of changes in society. Increasing pressure to perform at the workplace has disrupted the balance between tension and relaxation in many people, she remarked.
As Leder sees it, the lack of free time, the hectic pace and the complexity of everyday life have caused people with demanding occupations to be less desirous of variety and entertainment while on holiday.
“On the one hand, people today have a high degree of personal freedom,” said Professor Heinz-Dieter Quack, director of the European Tourism Institute in the German city of Trier. “On the other hand, they’re also personally responsible for many things that once seemed secure, such as providing for their old age.”
Quack said everyday life was overtaxing a lot of people, adding, “It’s getting harder to keep one’s bearings.” And many questions are more pressing now than they were for previous generations, he added: “How would I like to live? How much do I want to work? Should I live with my partner?”
The hectic pace of everyday life often leaves little time to think about these things carefully. So the sole opportunity can be a holiday. Leder said she was certain that the number of leisure holidaymakers was growing.
But they will never become a target group for mass-market tour operators, according to Lohmann. “That would be a contradiction in a way,” he noted

The promo of the movie 99 was showcased for the first time a few days back at a multiplex and has already started creating a hype about the film. 99 is an original story inspired by real events. It is as much “what could have been” as it is “what really happened.” In other words, it is historical fiction fiction being the keyword. In this ’smart comedy’ (as described by the directors) set in 1999, all the characters are bound by a common feeling of being stuck at 99 in life just one short of ‘century’ that elusive thing called ‘making it’ in life!
The evening saw the star cast present to tell us more about the movie which included Kunal Khemu, Soha Ali Khan, Boman Irani, Cyrus Broacha, Amit Mystry (making his debut in Hindi films), the directors Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D. K. “The movie is based on the genre of Smart Crime Comedy. It is slick, fast paced, realistic and importantly, very funny” said the directors Raj and Krishna.
The film is produced by Anupam Mittal and Aditya Shastri under their banner People Pictures and is schedule to release early May.

Washington, Mar 26 (ANI): Hollywood actress Judi Dench, who twisted her ankle during a fall at the Wyndham theatre, has returned to the London theatre to rehearse for her play ‘Madame De Sade’.
Judi was exiting the theatre after a long day when she abruptly fell and badly twisted her ankle.
Judi, who was hospitalized after the fall, could not refrain herself from getting back to work after missing four rehearsals.
She returned to the theatre on March 24, using a stick to aid walking.
“I am thrilled to be returning to Madame de Sade, and would like to thank everyone for their support during this time. We are having enormous fun as a company, and I am looking forward to getting back to the role of Madame de Montreuil,” Contactmusic quoted her as saying. (ANI)

Washington, Mar 18 (ANI): Researchers at University of Washington have discovered a brain abnormality linked to attention deficit hyperactivity and conduct disorders (ADHD) in boys.
During the study, the researchers focused on two brain areas-the striatum and anterior cingulate cortex.
The striatal region is a network of structures in the mid brain that motivates people to engage in pleasurable or rewarding behaviour.
The anterior cingulate is higher in the brain, and normally activates when an expected reward stops.
Theodore Beauchaine, a UW associate professor of psychology and senior author of the paper, says that this process doesn’t occur, at least as quickly, in boys with attention deficit hyperactivity or conduct disorders.
“When children engage in impulsive behaviour they are looking to stimulate themselves and have fun,” said Beauchaine.
“Children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder are always looking to have fun and that is what gets them in trouble,” he added.
But even when you stop the reward for children with these disorders, they continue to focus on the reward long afterward and the anterior cingulate does not appear to become activated.
For the study, the researchers compared 19 boys with either or both disorders and 11 normally developing boys. The adolescents ranged in age from 12 to 16.
They were asked to play a simple game that sometimes gave them a monetary reward for correct answers.
Beauchaine said that there was no difference in the accuracy or speed – the behavioral response – between the two groups. But there was a difference in brain activation.
“This shows there is an abnormality, but not in the place we expected to find it. We expected to find a difference in the way the striatum functions, but instead found it in anterior cingulate functioning,” he said. (ANI)

Saagwada (Rajasthan), Mar 12 (ANI): Over 50 people were seriously injured during a bizarre stone pelting festival in Rajasthan on Wednesday.
Unlike other parts of the country where revelers indulge in fun and frolic by sprinkling colour on each other during Holi, the villagers of Saagwada in Rajasthan’s Dungarpur district celebrate Holi by pelting stones at each other.
The festival forms an integral part of Saagwada village culture. It is conducted with great enthusiasm, resulting in injuries to scores of villagers every year.
“This is a 200-year-old tradition. Several attempts were made by the authorities to put a ban on this ritual, but nothing has been achieved so far,” said Satyanarayan Panchal, the chief of the village. (ANI)

Washington, Mar 7 (ANI): Britney Spears’ camp has dismissed reports that her sons would not be allowed to watch her ‘Circus’ concerts.
A statement on her Britney’s website claimed that her ex-hubby Kevin Federline had not banned Sean, 3, and Jayden, 2, from attending her concerts.
“Contrary to rumours linked to false articles, Britney Spears’ sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, will be joining her on the entire Circus tour and will be attending shows as planned,” Us magazine quoted the statement as saying.
It further read: “Britney’s family is a huge inspiration and she loves having them on the road with her.”
On March 5, the ‘Womaniser’ star was photographed sharing some fun moments with her sons at Disney’s Magic Kingdom in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
On March 3, Spears kicked off her first tour in five years in New Orleans, in the presence of the entire Spears clan, including sister Jamie Lynn, her beau Casey Aldridge and their baby girl, Maddie.
K-Fed was also there with Sean and Jayden, along with Spears’ mother Lynne and manager Larry Rudolph.
“The family seemed especially focused on Sean Preston and Jayden James, making sure the boys saw their mom on stage once the show began and encouraging the boys to clap and cheer for her,” said an onlooker. (ANI)

Sydney, Mar 7 (ANI): Aussie pop star Kylie Minogue says she was thrilled to work with Oscar winning music director AR Rahman in Bollywood film Blue.
The 40-year-old singer plays herself in the film, and also performs a set-piece song-and-dance routine in the underwater thriller starring Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt and Katrina Kaif.
“It was an incredible experience (to work with AR Rahman),” the Sydney Morning Herald quoted her as saying.
“I met AR Rahman at the BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) awards (in London last month). I couldn’t believe I was doing a song with him in Bollywood so soon after,” she added.
The film is about a sunken treasure ship and is said to have been inspired by the Hollywood production, The Deep.
On being asked if she would like to be a part of some of the Bollywood movies in future, Minogue said she would certainly consider.
“I got a lot of love here. Right now this feeling is just sinking in but certainly in future I will do more if I get the chance,” she said.
“I didn’t know much of Hindi but it does not matter because everyone was very cooperative and I had fun and joy.
I wanted to be part of Bollywood for a while and it was great opportunity that came by,” she added. (ANI)

Barsana (UP), Mar 5 (ANI): Residents of Barsana near Mathura in Uttar Pradesh celebrated ‘Laddoo Holi’ by smearing one another with coloured powder and distributing ‘Laddoos’ to mark the Holi.
“This is to please the Lord Banke Bihari and Radha Rani. We feel very happy celebrating this festival by tossing Laddoos at one another,” said Pawan Kumar, a devotee.
The flung Laddoos are pocketed with reverence as blessed offerings and hence the name ‘Laddoo Holi’.
Barsana, about 50 kilometres from Mathura, has the distinction of having the only temple dedicated to Lord Krishna’s consort Radha.
In Vrindavan and Mathura, where Lord Krishna is believed to have grown up, the festival is celebrated for 16 days until Ranga Panchmi to commemorate the divine love of Radha for Lord Krishna or ‘Dhulandi’, when people go around throwing coloured powder and spray water at each other.
Devotees from different parts of the country visit Barsana to celebrate the festival with much fun and gaiety and spraying of colours symbolising the start of spring.
Nonita Khurana, another devotee from Agra added, “We have come to be sprayed with colours in the name of Lord Kanhaiya and Goddesses Radha Rani. We are pleasing them with colours and Laddoos so that they feel happy. With devotion, we want to seek blessings at the sacred feet of Kanhaiya and become theirs forever.”
The ‘Laddoo Holi’ comes a day-before the town celebrates ‘Lathmaar Holi’ during which women chase away men with sticks.
‘Laddoo Holi’ is celebrated by the devotees who believe Lord Krishna came here from his native place Nandgoan to play.
Laddoos are distributed to mark the coming of Lord Krishna.t is said that on this day Lord Krishna came to Barsana and playfully teased Radha and her friends whereas he was chased away by the girls. This occasion is observed even today as ‘Lathmaar Holi’.
Though Holi is a single day affair elsewhere in the country, for the Brijwasis (people of Mathura where Lord Krishna spent his childhood days), it is almost a ten day event. By Brijesh Kumar Singh (ANI)
