London, March 8 (ANI): Freida Pinto is yet to believe she has landed the Hollywood jackpot after starring in Danny Boyle’s mega hit ‘Slumdog Millionaire’.
The 24-year-old, who hails from the city of Mumbai, revealed she kept pinching herself to believe the astonishing success of the film which bagged eight Oscars, seven BAFTAs and four Golden Globes.
Freida recently landed herself a role in Woody Allen’s new movie while being a favourite amongst the designers running to dress her.
She was also said to have Kate Winslet’s LA agent on her speed dial while boasting of having ear of the top actress herself, Angelina Jolie.
But the actress, who has been rumoured to have sparks flying with her 6-year-junior co-star Dev Patel, insisted she was yet to be struck by stardom and was far from believing that her showbiz dreams had come true.
“It’s been six months and nothing has sunk in yet,” News of the World quoted her as saying at the Four Seasons Hotel, Beverly Hills.
“I’m still the same sensitive and simple girl who always dreamed about becoming an actress.
“The only thing that’s changed is that the girl walking around in jeans and tees has now taken to wearing designer dresses,” she added.
Her former fiancé Rohan Antao had claimed that Freida not only compelled him to stay mum about their engagement, for the benefit of the movie, but also snubbed him to be with her onscreen lover.
Dumped Antao blamed the film and Dev for putting an end to his relationship with the actress.(ANI)

Washington, February 28 (ANI): The number of people willing to help some of India’s poorest children has suddenly increased on the back of the multiple award-winning success of Danny Boyle’s film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’.
According to ActionAid, the film’s portrayal of poverty in the slums of Mumbai has provoked an unprecedented increase in enquiries by those willing to sponsor Indian youngsters.
“We’re calling it the slumdog effect,” Contactmusic quoted the charity’s fundraising director, Richard Turner, as saying.
“We haven’t seen such a high level of interest in one country for a long time,” he added.
Turner revealed that ActionAid received about 1,400 enquiries about child sponsorship in the week after the film won seven Baftas, up from its weekly average of 500 calls.
He said: “Child sponsorship has transformed the lives of hundreds of thousands of children and is one of the most rewarding ways of giving. Sponsors’ money helps towards securing a decent education, better health care and economic security for children and the communities in which they live.” (ANI)

Washington, Feb 21 (ANI): ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ is most likely to win the best film award at the Oscars, according to a people’s choice poll.
The film, tracing the story of a poor boy winning a fortune in a reality show, has already won seven Baftas and four Golden Globes, and is the favourite to claim the top prize at the Academy awards.
And a poll carried out for HMV’s film and music social networking site getcloser.com, suggests that ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ would win the prize if the decision would lie in the hands of the viewers.
A big 59 per cent of voters said that the film based in Mumbai was their favourite to win best picture, followed by ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’ with 22 per cent votes.
Danny Boyle could bag the best director award at the Oscars, with 59 per cent of the participants so suggesting.
And, as far as acting is concerned, Mickey Rourke and Kate Winslet are said to be most people’s favourite to win the top prizes.
The viewers chose Taraji P Henson and the late Heath Ledger for the supporting awards.
“This poll of film fans on getcloser.com suggests that Slumdog Millionaire has a great chance of building on its Baftasuccess by also prevailing in the key best picture and directing Oscar categories – although it’s likely to face a much stronger challenge from The Curious Case of Benjamin Button this time around,” Contactmusic quoted Matt Potter, content manager for getcloser.com, as saying.
He added: “The one thing I feel we can all say with a much greater degree of certainty, however, is that a posthumous Oscar will be awarded to Heath Ledger for his memorably manic portrayal of The Joker in The Dark Knight.” (ANI)

Washington, Feb 20 (ANI): Slumdog Millionaire’s bosses have confirmed that the film’s child stars Rubina Ali and Azharuddin Ismail will be flown to Los Angeles for the Academy Awards.
It was earlier reported that both the actors would miss the Oscars because their parents had allegedly withdrawn their permission for travelling to Los Angeles with other cast members.
However, a spokesperson for Fox Searchlight has now confirmed that two youngsters will receive A-star treatment at the glitzy ceremony at Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre.
“Everybody is really excited about it. It’s nice the whole gang will be together,” Contactmusic quoted Fox Searchlight representative James Finn as saying.
Ali and Azharuddin will travel with relatives and will be put up in a five-star hotel for two days.
The film, of an 18-year-old slum boy from rags to riches, has already triumphed Golden Globes and Baftas, and has been nominated in 10 categories at the Oscars. (ANI)

Washington, Feb 18 (ANI): British actress Kate Winslet credits her toned physique to “a wing and a prayer”, insisting she’s “too busy” to even think about exercising.
The Oscar nominee, who has struggled with weight since she was a teenager, insists she hasn’t been slimming down for the big ceremony.
When asked if she was dieting, Winslet said, “N.O. (I) absolutely do not. I’m very sort of relaxed and vocal about these things. I have not done a stitch of exercise since October. I literally have not had the time.”
“I’m just going to eat normally, I’m not going to make cuts.
“If I’m keeping it together it’s by a wing and a prayer. I just want to enjoy this,” she added.
The 33-year-old actress is winning accolades for her role in The Reader, and is tipped to win the Best actress at the Oscars.

London, Feb 12 (ANI): English model Kate Moss’ absenteeism from the Baftas has been revealed to have been due by her inability to decide on which dress to wear to the event.
Moss was due to attend the event with her boyfriend Jamie Hince, but changed her mind at the last moment as according to her pals she was could not find a dress to shine out in.
“Kate’s friends were waiting for her to turn up, only to be told she’d settled into her favourite Sunday-night TV,” the Daily Express quoted a pal as saying.
“But then Kate had a change of heart and said she’d be on her way after she’d picked the right dress.
“Just when everyone thought she’d be joining them, Kate called back to say she’d changed her mind as she wasn’t happy with how she looked in anything. It’s quite incredible when you think how many fabulous outfits she must have,” the pal said.
It seems with the likes of Angelina Jolie and Kate Winslet present there, Moss, 35, wasn’t prepared to risk being upstaged on the night.
“With the likes of Angelina Jolie turning up, Kate knew she’d be alongside a long list of beautiful women in amazing outfits,” the pal stated.
“She wasn’t her usual confident self and eventually decided she’d prefer to give it a miss rather than risk looking very much second best.
“In the end she and Jamie just crawled into bed instead and had an early night,” the pal added. (ANI)

London, February 8 (ANI): Several of Hollywood’s finest actors arrived in London to attend The Orange British Academy Film Awards nominees party ahead of Sunday night’s ceremony.
Kate Winslet, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were among the actors who braved freezing conditions to attend the party held at Asprey, the jeweller, on Bond Street, reports the Telegraph.
Danny Boyle-directed film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ is being touted to be the top choice for the Best Film prize.
Many punters are convinced that the Bombay-based rags-to-riches tale will bag the gong, and thus bookies have slashed the odds to a derisory 1-6.
Many in the film industry see the Baftas as the most reliable guide to what will happen on Oscar night later this month. (ANI)

London, Feb 7 (ANI): Legendary studios Pinewood and Shepperton, which have witnessed some of the most celebrated flicks, are all set to be honoured with an award for Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.
The studios have made acclaimed flicks since ages, ranging from ‘Gandhi’ to ‘Slumdog Millionaire’.
The 75-year-old studios, after producing over 1500 flicks, have carved a niche in every old and young heart.
The studios’ classics include The African Queen, David Lean’s Great Expectations, Dr Strangelove, Superman and The Shining, and 20 James Bond films, including Casino Royale and Quantum Of Solace and many more.
The Observer’s film critic Jason Solomons said that Pinewood’s ability to adapt has ensured it remained a cornerstone of the British film industry.
“Britain has always led the way in the craft categories. They have always been known for their wonderful cameramen, their wonderful props masters, their wonderful set designers. All of those were housed at Pinewood,” Sky News quoted the Flick critic as saying.
“But these days, the craft is in the technology and so, if Britain does not advance in technology, it will get left behind,” he added.
The studios have grown alongside the film industry and have the largest sound stage in Europe. (ANI)
