Mumbai, Aug.22 (ANI): A local court here on Saturday granted bail to Mumbai-based TV actress Urvashi Dhanorkar, who has been booked under the Juvenile Justice Act and the Child Labour Act, for allegedly physically abusing her 10-year-old housemaid Rameshwari.
She was produced before the Bandra Holiday Court.
Dhanorkar’s lawyer, Nitin S. Satpute, contended the black marks and swelling on the child’s face were created by bee stings and the burn scars on her forearms were caused by boiling water fallen on her.
“Under the Juvenile Act, my client was arrested. She was produced in the court. Police asked for her remand but the court rejected the police plea and granted her judicial custody. Later, the court granted her bail,” said Satpute.
The actress was arrested on Saturday morning after medical reports confirmed that Rameshwari was physically abused.
Rameshwari was allegedly punched in her eye and was left with black and bruised marks, besides burns on her forearms.
The girl was rescued by her neighbours on Friday (Aug 21) night, when she was playing the children of her employer in the garden.
“When I saw this child her hands were burnt, eyes were red. She was scared. Residents gathered and took her to hospital. After examining, the doctor said it was marks of beating up. Secondly, according to the child labour (laws), hiring any child as a domestic help is a crime. We phoned police and it came for our help,” said Bindu Bhosle, Chairperson of Mahan Shakti a Non-Government Organisation (NGO) and neighbour of Rameshwari. (ANI)

London, Aug 22 (ANI): A music video by makers of the cult internet soap The Guild has ripped apart the likes of Beyonce and Black Eyed Peas to capture the number one slot in the UK iTunes chart.
(Do You Wanna Date My) Avatar was written to popularise the third series of the show, a tale of people playing an online role-playing game.
The lyrics have lines like: “You’ll never see my actual face. Our love will be in virtual space.”
Almost half a million people have accessed the video since its upload on Monday. The song itself occupies the second position in the Amazon US download chart.
Felicia Day, actress and writer of The Guild, was “a little bit surprised” by the phenomenal success of the track, and said the response by the audience had been “very cool”.
The BBC quoted Day as saying: “We beat the establishment and it fills me with glee.
“One of the things that drives me is to do things differently…. Most people would be working with a label and going through a lot of hoops.
“I think our success empowers everybody who feels like they can’t get their art out there.”
Day who plays Codex in the award-winning sitcom came up with the song when she was writing scripts for the new series, which is financed and distributed by Microsoft via Xbox Marketplace.
“We do 12 episodes per series, and we always owe an extra video for our Xbox order, and I thought ‘wouldn’t it be fun to do something musical? I was listening to really bad 1990s dance songs – C+C Music Factory, Stacey Q – and that was my inspiration,” she said.
TV scriptwriter Jed Whedon composed the music for the number.
The track also features an “intricate and clearly masterful” rap by The Guild co-stars Jeff Lewis and Sandeep Parikh. (ANI)

London, August 14 (ANI): Farrah Fawcett’s best friend of 30 years, Alana Stewart, has slammed reports alleging that the late star’s long-time love Ryan O’Neal was with her because of her bank balance.
Stewart, who remained with the actress during her cancer battle, insisted Ryan is a “good guy”, adding he had more money than Fawcett.
“It’s almost like a joke frankly and anybody who knows them well knows that’s so not true,” The Daily Express quoted Stewart as saying.
“They were together over 30 years and frankly Ryan always had a lot more money than Farrah. He invested his money from day one very well.
“He was very loving with her those last few months and it was very clear that he was heartbroken. He was losing the love of his life. That’s the only reason he was there. I am a supporter of Ryan’s because I know how much he loved her and still does.
“Ryan is a complex guy but he’s a good guy and he’s got a good heart and he was very good to Farrah those last number of months.
As far as I’m concerned that’s really the end of the story,” she added. (ANI)

Washington, August 10 (ANI): Pamela Anderson has revealed that she has a split personality, and is a natural exhibitionist.
“I have a split personality. My boyfriend would tell you that I play a lot of characters. As soon as the camera comes out, I assume another role,” Contactmusic quoted her as saying.
She said: “People never think I am much of an actress, but it’s always a performance for me. I am a bit of an exhibitionist.”
The former ‘Baywatch’ babe has no apologies for being the person she is.
“I am who I am. No apologies, no excuses. I’m not here for anyone’s approval.”
The 42-year-old sex icon admitted that her past has been wild- marked by link ups with Tommy Lee, Kid Rock and Rick Salomon- but insists that being a mother to her sons, 13-year-old Brandon and Dylan, 11, has ended her partying habits for the good.
She added: “I’m no angel. I do try. I’ve been wild and crazy, I’ll admit that. I’ve been around everything you can think of, but when I’ve misbehaved I’ve always managed to stop myself.
‘What am I doing? Come on, I’m a mother!’ I enjoyed all those moments though. Now and again I might drink champagne, but the real craziness is in the past. My kids saved my life.” (ANI)

New Delhi, April 28 (IANS) After having done bit roles in not-so-successful films like ‘Cash’ and ‘Krazzy 4′, actress Dia Mirza now pins her hopes on forthcoming multi-starrer ‘Acid Factory’ in which she has performed several stunts on her own.
”Acid Factory’ is one of my biggest films. I really worked hard for the film and can’t wait to see the promos on air,’ Dia, who made her Bollywood debut in 2001 with ‘Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein’, said in a press statement.
In the film, Dia is the only female character and has performed several stunts on her own alongside actors Fardeen Khan, Irrfan Khan, Manoj Bajpai, Dino Morea and Aftab Shivdasani.
Directed by Suparn Varma, the film is produced by Sanjay Gupta. There were reports that Dia had developed differences with the makers of ‘Acid Factory’ due to the delay in releasing the film, but the beauty queen-turned-actress denies it.
She said: ‘The film is releasing as scheduled – winter 2009. It’s a big release and they (the filmmakers) have a grand plan for the marketing of the film. The shooting of the film is complete and it is in the post production stage now.’

Sonam Kapoor is a self confessed Shah Rukh Khan fan and has gone on record to openly admit her crush for SRK, which started right from the time she saw him with his arms open and riding a mobike in Raj Kanwar’s DEEWANA. And the crush has stood the test of times. This was brought to light in her recent confession where she admitted that even though she chooses only the roles that have substance, she is ready to bend the rule for her favourite actor!
The SAWAARIYA and DELHI 6 actress has always been very picky as far as her charecters are concerned (unlike her contemporaries), and has stated that she would never do roles that require her to just sing and dance around trees and look pretty, no matter which the banner is. She has also said that she would not work with her father, the still handsome Anil Kapoor and other stars of the same era, who look too young to play her father on-screen. So a lot of do’s and don’t’s are listed in the pretty lass’s rule book.
However, Sonam is ready to bend the rule for who else, but SRK. Sonam says that in order to work with Shah Rukh Khan, she is ready to accept any role, even a miniscule one!
So, what are the producers waiting for? This would definitely make a very interesting pair.

Mumbai, April 24 (IANS) Anjana Sukhani says she is game for bikinis if her role really demands it. Though she has adopted a glamorous persona in films like ‘Golmaal Returns’ and ‘Salaam-E-Ishq’, the actress is yet to join the bikini brigade.
‘It’s not in my wish list either. However, there comes a point in your career where you get a film that requires you to shed your inhibitions. Of course, the role that I play has to be of utmost importance – if it is justified for the character to wear a bikini, then I won’t fret about it,’ Anjana told IANS.
Skin show has taken a different dimension in the last few months with actresses like Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Minissha Lamba and Amisha Patel getting into the swim wear for their roles. Also with dozens of film and fashion magazines hitting the stands, actresses are making a bee line to be seen on the cover.
‘I’m very sure about the fact that posing seductively for the camera doesn’t really pay. It can’t help you grab work. What eventually matters is how talented you are and whether you can deliver goods on the screen,’ said the actress who had grabbed attention in the Cadbury ad with superstar Amitabh Bachchan.
But being in the glamour world where beauty sells, isn’t that a dicey statement to make?
‘Of course, looking pretty is a valuable thing, but then talent matters as well’, said Anjana. ‘At the end of the day, it is about coming up with a balancing act. Being ‘just pretty’ or ‘just talented’ doesn’t help because one of them working just in isolation can’t take you anywhere. You have to have a good mix of both.’
‘My dad has always said that you should do things that reflect the goal that you want to ultimately meet. If a small step taken by me helps me get closer to that goal, I won’t mind doing that as long as I don’t cross any limits,’ she added.
In that case, how does she look back at her first few steps when she had just started her career with films like ‘Humdum’ (2005) and ‘Sun Zarra’ (2006)?
‘I continue to be emotionally attached to these films because those earlier steps reaffirmed that I existed and paved the way for me to appear in bigger and better films. I didn’t come from a filmy family; nor did I have any supermodel experience that could help me get work. Those were testing times and everything that I decided to do, I had to do it on my own without any godfather supporting me.’
With ‘Jashn’, ‘Tum Milo toh Sahi’ and ‘Allah Ke Banday’ in the pipeline, life is certainly looking up for Anjana.
‘Certainly. I am glad that these are turning out to be good times. I stand by all my decisions in the past and, regardless of whether they have succeeded or failed, I have no regrets,’ she said.

Celina Jaitley who recently relaunched the gay magazine ‘Bombay Dost’ has been at the receiving end of the ire of Homophobes!
Ever since the re-launch of the defunct magazine a few days back, Celina has been inundated by mails on her official website. The support showed by Celina has triggered extreme reactions from people. Though there has been tremendous support from people all over the world, what has astounded the actress is that majority of these irate mails have come from women!!! These mails have gone on to call her names, use derogatory and abusive language and denounce her.
Celina elaborates saying, ”Numerous intolerant and homophobic people have sent me abusive messages regarding my gay rights activism and launch of Bombay Dost on various websites including my own. It does not deter me from my cause but it saddens me that people have so much hatred not only towards sexual minorities but towards people who show them support. It is so unfortunate that people have not stopped their hatred against the gay community but have only learnt to mask it. My struggle has only just begun and I thank all those who stand by me in this human rights and human dignity issue.”
The actress, who starred in the blockbuster GOLMAAL RETURNS, has always campaigned for the rights of gays and has actively supported them in every endeavour earning the epithet of the ‘Most Queer-friendly public icon’. Celina has extended her active support be it walking the streets hand in hand with the gays, protesting against the criminalization of homosexuality or setting up groups on her official website and social networking sites for people from all walks of life to lend their support and love.
This extreme reaction that her support for gay’s rights has elicited a stronger determination in this fiery lady to bring together all the supporters.
Taking all the flak in her stride she says unfazed, ”Despite all the hate mail from all homophobic groups, I will not cease to continue what I started. I’ve learnt one thing in life – people even more than things have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed and redeemed; never throw out anyone…”
For this, she solicits every supporter to join the communities promoting gay rights so that every individual can exercise his / her right to their sexuality without fear of being marginalized.
Celina puts in a last word, ”There are critics for everything a celebrity does so does that mean I must stop living and listening to my heart? I’m happy to do this for all my gay friends.”
She ends with an appeal to all like-minded people – Just stand by me

Washington, Apr 24 (ANI): Pop singer Justin Timberlake has revealed his make-out session with actress Jessica Biel at the Lakers game on April 21.
Timberlake, 28, said that he and Biel, 27, were not usually in the habit of displaying their affection in public, but they were so caught up in the moment that they were not able to stop themselves.
“We’re not actually that much of exhibitionists in front of 18,000 people,” Us magazine quoted Timberlake as saying on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
“They were playing Sonny and Cher’s ‘I Got You Babe’.
“And we were watching all these sort of elderly people kiss-it got kind of weird there for a second, I’m not going to lie-but it was really endearing.
“And then they cut to Dustin Hoffman and his wife, and he planted an open mouth kiss on her that was, like, award-winning in its own way.
“Then they cut to us, and I was not to be undone. So I mounted my girlfriend in front of 18,000 people,” he explained.
Thinking back about what he had done, Timberlake ruefully said he should have thought better.
“That was one of those moments where I should have made a better decision,” he added. (ANI)

London, Apr 24 (ANI): Jade Goody’s life and death is to be the subject of a musical, according to one of her closest friends.
It has emerged that producers are searching for an actress to play the former Big Brother star, reports The Telegraph.
Goody died last month aged 27 after losing her battle with cervical cancer.
According to Danny Hayward, who runs a photographic agency and was one of the best men at Goody’s wedding, the musical would premiere this year.
“One of the various projects we’ve got in the pipeline is a musical we’ve got coming out in about four months’ time and it is going to be the story of her life, and we’re going to be on the search for who is going to play Jade,” he told ITN On.
“Her dream as a little girl was to be in a musical, so obviously when she passed away it felt fitting to do something like this,” he added.
Choreographer Victoria Hayward said of the casting process:
“Obviously there is nobody else in this world quite like Jade, but hopefully we’ll have a panel not only of creative experts but people that were close to Jade, to pick somebody who is able to dance, to sing – because Jade could sing, she had a fabulous voice – and to act, and also to have that extra special sparkle that she had.”
The plans were announced at a book launch celebrating the posthumous publication of Goody’s autobiography. (ANI)

Strange as our headlines may seem, but they are hundred percent correct. As is known, actress Kareena Kapoor was in Chandigarh last weekend for shooting an ad film, being directed by her favourite, Imtiaz Ali, of JAB WE MET fame.
The shooting location was a wheat field in village Panhudi near Mallapur (Chandigarh). Just to ensure that Bebo dear was not bitten by an insect or a vermin, pesticides were sprayed in abundance on the fully harvested crop! Not only that, the path that Kareena was supposed to take for reaching the exact shooting venue was also fumigated.
Unfortunately, Kareena was not happy with the location and so pack up was announced and she returned to Mumbai, where the rest of the ad film will be shot.

Karan said Tanay, who played the ‘middle’ Jamal in the multiple Oscar-winning film, made Shah Rukh Khan’s childhood look convincing for the film.
The director chose him to play young Shah Rukh because of not only his facial likeness to the star but also Tanay’s instant connectivity with the Mumbai slums and thereafter the Western audience.
‘Tanay is exceptionally talented. He was able to imbibe Shah Rukh’s character traits and use them to make SRK’s childhood look convincing,’ said Karan.
The scenes with Tanay were shot in Borivali along with actress Zarina Wahab, who plays Shah Rukh’s mother in the movie. The director now intends to cast Tanay as junior SRK whenever required, much in the way that Master Mayur played the young Amitabh Bachchan in a series of films.
Though the take-off point for ‘My Name Is Khan’ is 9/11, not a single shot is taken in New York. The film is set in Los Angeles and San Francisco – two of the most expensive cities in the US for shooting.
While Karan Johar’s production of Rensil de Silva’s Kareena Kapoor-Saif Ali Khan film on terrorism will have Philadelphia masquerading as New York, his own directorial take on terrorism and the isolation of the working-class Muslim has gone to two US cities.
Karan shot in LA earlier this year and leaves for San Francisco in May for a 40-day schedule.

His first big budget venture, 8×10 TASVEER, may have flopped but that has not dampened Nagesh Kukunoor’s ‘hausla’ (courage based on confidence) as he has now pinned all hopes on his latest film, YEH HAUSLA. Like any other seasoned director he has moved on, citing 8×10 TAVEER as a great learning experience.
There is a lot riding on Nagesh’s YEH HAUSLA. For start, it has the sexy bombshell Samira Reddy, in the role of a rustic woman. Our patrons may recall that it was we who had brought you the news about the dusky beauty being offered the role of a lifetime by Nagesh and the subsequent tough outdoor shooting schedule in. Those who have seen the rushes of the film are of the view that Samira has done a terrific job in the film, a la Smita Patil and it would help establish Samira as an actress of substance and shed her item girl image.
However, coming back to why we are here for in the first place. Just a few months back we had brought you the news about camera being the real hero of Neil Nitin Mukesh’s AA DEKHEN ZARA. And even in Nagesh’s 8×10 TASVEER, the camera, through its pictures played a very important part in the film. Well, once again a movie camera plays a pivotal role in Nagesh Kukunoor’s next, YEH HAUSLA. But readers may not be alarmed, the camera in Nagesh’s film does not help see the future, though it certainly improves the present of the people by becoming their ally via a documentary shot by them!
Well, Nagesh keep up that ‘hausla’ and all the best!
