A peek at how actors fared in 2008

A peek at how actors fared in 2008Balakrishna’s

Okka Magaadu and Pandurangadu released, and both were flops, but he got some good name with Pandurangadu. At present, he is doing a film under the direction of Mahadev. Other projects are in discussion stage.

Venkatesh’s

Chintakayala Ravi was an average grosser. He agreed to do Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum for Gamyam-fame Krish, and Marmayogiwith Kamal Hasan, after he finishes his current holidaying. He’s also planning to start his own production house next year.

Nagarjuna’s

didn’t have a release until King that released in the last week of the year. His Don from last year was a surprising money- spinner, but he didn’t get a good name in that.

Pawan Kalyan’s

had only one release too this year in the form of Jalsa, and the film went on to become a blockbuster. He’s currently shooting for Komaram Puli which completed 60 percent shooting and is expected to be wrapped up the talkie part soon, so that Pawan Kalyan can be politically active. The film might release in summer of 2009 or later. He has not signed up any other projects as yet.

Ravi Teja

had three releases this year. At least one “big” star has done three films this year, which is good for the industry. He started with a good hit Krishna, but Baladoor was a disaster, while the result of Neninthe is awaited as it hit the screens only last week.

Jr NTR

has one release too in the form of Kantri. The film’s result was not satisfactory to anyone. He’s currently working for a film in the direction of V.V. Vinayak.

Prabhas

had only one release too,Bujjigadu, which can be called his best performance till date, but the film did not end up satisfactory. He’s presently doing the remake of NTR’s Yugandhar with Krishnam Raju, while Meher Ramesh directs it.

Jagapathi Babu

is one hero with five movies this year, namely Swaagatham, Kathanayakudu, Homam, Raksha, and Bhale Dongalu. Swaagatham, Bhale Dongalu, and Kathanayakudu were flops, Homam and Raksha were average. He’s right now working for four films. His Moksham, a sequel to Homam, is almost complete and the rest are in pipeline. He’s always been one actor who doesn’t bother about the image and will act if the role is good.

Gopichand’s

Ontari had good openings but the film flopped. His Sowryam was however a hit. At present, he is doing one more film with Shiva who directed Sowryam.

Tarun

had only one release Bhale Dongalu which ended up to be a flop. He is pairing with Genelia for the first time Sashirekha Parinayam under the direction of Krissnavamsi, which is coming as the first film of 2009, on January 1. He has signed up a film for Supreme Raju Hirwani’s production and some more seem to be in discussion.

Nitin

is one of the costliest flop heroes of the year, charging almost a crore per film. However, none of his films were hit this year. He did three films Aataadisthaa!, Victory, and Hero. His Drona with Priyamani is releasing in January 2009, while another film of his is in making with Ileana as the female lead.

Allari Naresh

is the most happening hero of the year, working non-stop, with eight films hitting screens in 2008 – Sundarakanda, Vishakha Express, Pelli Kaani Prasad, Gamyam, Bommana Brothers-Chandana Sisters, Siddhu from Sikakulam, Blade Babjee, and Dongala Bandi. Four of his films were hits, and he’s presently considered the most bankable hero of Tollywood and is in much demand. His Fitting Master is getting released in January of 2009, and he’s shooting for two films at present, one for Manyam Ramesh of Manyam Entertainments and another for the prestigious Suresh Productions. More films are currently in discussion stage. Naresh had four releases in one of the months, which is not generally considered a good move, and he probably already realized it.

Allu Arjun

had only one release, Parugu, which became a hit. His film with Gunashekar had just started.

Ram

made an impact with Ready, as the film went on to be one of the highest grossers of 2008. His Maska is getting released next month. His new film with Saravanan will start shooting from January 2009.

Kalyan Ram’s

only film in 2008, Hare Ram, was a hit and he’s doing a film at present.

Sumanth

had two films, Pourudu and Vijay IPS. Pourudu was an average and the long-stalled Sabhash that came out after years as Vijay IPS was a washout. He’s working for Boni which is gearing up for release in March of 2009. No other films have been finalized yet

Sharwanand

made a mark with Gamyam. He has currently finished shooting for the film’s Tamil version that’s releasing for Sankranthi in 2009, and has also done another Tamil film. He’s currently working with Mohanbabu in a film and has also agreed to work for a film each by Chandra Siddhartha and Vennela-fame Deva Katta.

Raja

had a string of films in 2008, Mister Medhavi, Idee Sangathi!, Nee Sukhame Ne Korukunna!, Bhadradri, and Andamaina Abaddham. His Samarthudu is ready for release. He’s doing Jaganmohini, a film for debutant director Suman Pathuri, Sontha Ooru, and another with Kannada director Sunil Kumar Desai.

Rajasekhar

had only one release, Gorintaaku, which became the highest grosser in his career. He’s shooting for Satyameva Jayate under Jeevitha’s direction at this time. He had been in news more than his films kept him in spotlight.

Srikanth

was another busy actor who was busy whole year despite not having any hits. He acted in Nagaram, Adivishnu, and Kausalya Supraja Rama in 2008, and he’s currently doing two films.

Shivaji

was another actor who was constantly busy irrespective of the fate of his films. Pelli Kaani Prasad, Brahmanandam Drama Company, Kuberulu, Aalayam, Maa ayana Chanti Pilladu, etc. were released but none of them made an impact at the box-office.

Varun Sandesh,

who debuted as a solo hero after Happy Days last year, had a super hit film Kottha Bangaaru Lokam and is presently completing a film for AVM Studios under the direction of Marthand Shankar. He is also doing a remake of Maro Charitra and four more films are in pipeline, thanks to the talk his film had generated this year.

Nikhil,

another hero from Happy Days, had two releases this year, Ankith, Pallav and Friends and Yuvatha. While Yuvatha was a hit, the former was a flop. His new film for AVM Studios banner will be starting in January 2009, and more good banners are waiting to start films after that.

Vishnu

had only one release Krishnarjuna that flopped. He’s coming up with Saleem in mid-2009, sporting a slim look.

Manoj

came up with Nenu Meeku Telusaa!, working very hard for the film, performing risky stunts with ease and carrying style with him through the film, but the confused script marred the film’s run. He’s currently working on his next film.

Rajeev Kanakala

turned hero with films like Vishakha Express, Three, Black and White, and Naa Ane Vaadu. He had one hit in the form of Black and White, while his Naa Ane Vaadu released in the last week of 2008. He’s currently working for three films as the lead actor.

Uday Kiran,

who wished to start another innings, is still haunted by bad luck. His Lakshmiputrudu, Gunde Jhallumandi, EkaLOVEyudu were all flops. He’s doing one film now.

Srihari’s

Bhadradri was a flop, and his role in recently released King is appreciated. He’s coming up with Sreesailam and Samrajyam, and is also acting in Dasari Narayana Rao’s Mesthri.

Venu

had two films in 2008, both of which were flops. He is completing Vamsy’s Gopi Gopika Godavari and his Maayagaadu with Charmme is being marketed with a sizzling song of the heroine.

Promising debutants:

Sushanth ( Kalidasu), Yashosagar ( Ullasamga.. Utsahamga..), Naani ( Ashta Chemma), Kamal Kamaraju ( Avakai Biryani) Other heroes, Vinay ( Vaana) Baladitya ( 100 Kotlu, Bhadradri), Ali ( Somberi, Thinnaamaa.. Padukunnaammaa.. Thellaarindaa..), Rishi ( Gita), R. Narayana murthy ( Erra Samudram, Devarakonda Veerayya), Lawrence ( Pardhu), Rajendra Prasad ( Appu Chesi Pappu Koodu), Ravikrishna ( Ninna Nedu Repu, Brahmanandam Drama Company) did not make any impact at the box-office or among general audiences.
