A few hours of heavy rain threw the city completely out of gear on Wednesday. A wall collapse in a slum area in Thane led to the death of eight people. Walls collapsed in Chembur, Mulund and Andheri too, though no one was injured.

A landslide took place at Chembur Vashi Naka in which three houses were destroyed but no one was injured.

One runway of the Mumbai international airport shut down for the day. The other also shut down for 10 minutes after visibility dropped. Three Mumbai-bound flights were diverted to Ahmedabad and Pune because of the congestion.

Meteorological department said Mumbai has already received 60.77 mm rainfall with Colaba in south Mumbai recording 78.6 mm and suburban Santa Cruz getting 95.0 mm since Tuesday. The eastern suburbs have received 77.56 mm of rainfall while in the western suburbs it is 67.57 mm.

Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai Commissioner Swadhin Kshatriya told CNN-IBN that 200 pumps were used for pumping out water from low-lying areas.

“All officers are on high alert. There is some local problem but most of the trains are running. There is a forecast of heavy rains with high tide after 3 PM,” said Kshatriya.

Kolkata, March 16 (IANS) Kolkata Knight Riders gave a pathetic batting display to crash to a 55-run defeat against Chennai Super Kings who won their first game in the Indian Premier League (IPL) here Tuesday.

Facing an asking rate of 8.25, the KKR innings never got going after Brad Hodge (0) departed off the second delivery, as their batsmen fell prey to soft dismissals to see the innings fold for 109 in 19.1 overs before a capacity crowd at the Eden Gardens.

After winning their first two games, the Shah Rukh Khan-owned KKR crashed to their first defeat in the cash-rich league.

Earlier, the Chennai Super Kings rode on a cracker of an innings from skipper Dhoni (66 not out of 33 balls) and his 109-run unfinished fourth wicket stand with S. Badrinath (43 not out of 33 balls) to post an eight-plus asking rate. With Dhoni leading the charge, the duo picked up 83 runs in the last six overs to make the difference between the two teams.

Except Wriddhiman Saha (22; 5×4) none of the top order Knight Riders batsmen looked capable of throwing a challenge to the rivals, who bowled a disciplined stuff. Five of the Super Kings bowlers got wickets, with Justin Kemp (3/12) and Laxmipathy Balaji (2/9) doing the maximum damage.

The full body scanners made their debut at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport on Monday and the two Islamic groups claim the technology is too invasive.

The Fiqh Council of North America, a body of Islamic scholars located in Plainfield, Indiana, said the screening imagery is a violation of Islam.

Last month the council issued a statement that said the full body imagery “is against the teachings of Islam, natural law, and all religions and cultures that stand for decency and modesty.”

“It is a violation of clear Islamic teachings that men or women be seen naked by other men and women,” the statement continued. “There must be a compelling case for the necessity and the exemption to this rule must be proportional to the demonstrated need.”

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a Washington-based civil rights advocacy group, agreed.

Its Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper said CAIR plans to track Muslims concerns with the scanners before deciding what actions to take next.

“Modesty is a basic principal of the Islamic faith, it’s very important and always has been. People say, ‘I’ll do anything for safety,’ but that’s not the question. Everybody wants to be safe. Muslims fly like anybody else … you can be safe and secure and still maintain your privacy rights,” Hooper said.

The number of full-body scanners at US airports is to triple in 2010, reports the Christian Science Monitor (CSM).

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has deployed 150 scanners across 21 US airports this month, partly in response to the failed Christmas Day bombing of a Detroit-bound jetliner, where bomb-making materials were hidden in a passenger’s underwear – something full-body scanners would have seen.

The TSA expects to install an additional 300 scanners in nine additional airports by the end of this year.

But security officials say they will be able to accommodate the wishes of passengers – Muslim or otherwise – who object to the full-body screener.

The technology is “completely optional for all passengers,” says Jim Fotenos, a TSA spokesman, and those who choose not to participate get “an equal level of screening,” which includes a walk through a metal detector and a physical pat-down by an officer of the same sex.

To stress the anonymity of the process, the TSA says officers review the images in a remote location and never see the actual passengers. What they do see via their monitors is automatically deleted from the system once the passenger passes review.

The Fiqh Council, however, is urging followers to request pat-down searches as an alternative.

CAIR’s Mr. Hooper also advocates an increase in federal funding for alternate screening technologies that do not require visual screening, such as the “Puffer,” a machine that can identify chemical particles a person may have on their body and analyze whether or not they are harmful. (ANI)

The Pakistani response showed otherwise. “Aggressive pronouncements by persons identified by the world as terrorists continue to be made openly against India,” Rao said, referring to Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafeez Saeed among others. “Today, Pakistan claims that it is in no position to give us such a guarantee that terrorism can be controlled by its authorities.”

Despite the “brazen and malignant” nature of the threats India faced, Rao said, India has made several genuine efforts to restore trust and confidence. But now in the face of Pakistani intransigence, public opinion in India “can hardly be expected to support the resumption of a full-blown Composite Dialogue.”

Ahead of a visit here next week by a high-level Pakistani team led by its foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Rao also told her US interlocutors that strict accountability criteria should apply to defence assistance rendered to Pakistan for operations against terrorists and insurgents on the border with Afghanistan. India’s past experience regarding such assistance, she said, “has taught us to be vigilant to the possibility of it being used for purposes that generate tension and hostile actions against India.” Pakistan has sought from the Obama administration drones, fighter jets, and a civilian nuclear deal on par with the US-India agreement, and the demands are expected to be presented next week.

Rao also questioned US messaging on Afghanistan, saying it is vital for the international community to stay the course in that country and any reintegration process should include only those who abjure violence and terrorism and are willing to abide by the values of democracy, pluralism and human rights. “There is every risk, otherwise, that the Taliban could resurrect themselves as they have done in the past even when we think they have been defeated or we are rid of their hardcore elements,” she warned, adding, “one cannot stress enough the need to avoid compromises or differentiation between the so-called shades of the Taliban.”

While her remarks about Af-Pak situation revealed a degree of disquiet with the Obama administration’s policies in the region, Rao was largely sanguine about bilateral ties with the US despite some of the commentariat suggesting the Obama administration had taken its eyes off the US-India ball. She remained unflustered over the stalling of the nuclear liability bill in Parliament saying it would be introduced after recess, and insisted the civilian nuclear deal was otherwise on schedule.

“The foreign policy priorities of the United States and India seem to converge now as never before – and both Governments recognize the validity of their cooperation in helping to craft solutions to the foremost challenges of our times,” Rao maintained despite the question marks she raised on the Af-Pak situation and New Delhi’s continued grievances against the US export control regime that is also the subject of her discussions here.

Kumar was found dead at his constituency home yesterday morning, reports The Times.

A spokesman for Dr Kumar”s parliamentary office said it was a “huge shock” and that they were not aware that the 53-year-old had underlying health issues.

Local staff had called at his northeast home after the MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland failed to attend a meeting at Westminster yesterday.

He was found in his chair and pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The Speaker, John Bercow, said: “Ashok was a most assiduous Member, much respected by the House and by professional background a very fine chemical engineer.”

“I am sure members on all sides of the House will join me in mourning the loss of a colleague and extending our sympathy to the honourable member’s family and friends,” he added.

Dr Kumar, who was born in India in 1956, had been MP for the northeast seat since 1997.

He began his political career as a local councillor for Middlesbrough Borough Council and first entered parliament as MP for Langbaurgh after a 1991 by-election win.

After losing the seat in the 1992 general election, he re-entered Parliament five years later as MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland.

The seat, which has a notional 8,096 majority over the Conservatives, will now be contested at the general election. (ANI)

Candidates with Bachelor degree in Biology (3 Years duration) will have to spend 3 years in M.Sc. programme.

Only those candidates who have passed the qualifying examinations in 2008 or thereafter including those who are appearing in 2010 are eligible to apply. In other words, those who have passed the qualifying examination prior to 2008, are not eligible to apply.

M.Tech in Biotechnology

M.Tech (Biotechnology) programme at Anna University, Chennai; Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi, Kerala; and West Bengal University of Technology, Kolkata

Eligibility: Minimum 60% marks or equivalent grade in any one B.Tech/B.E. in Chemical Engineering/Biochemical Engineering, Industrial Biotechnology, Leather Technology, Chemistry/Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, B. Pharma, Chemical Technology, or M.Sc. in Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics, Biophysics, Microbial Genetics and Bioinformatics.

For Anna University, candidates with B.Tech/B.E in Electrochemistry, Bioengineering and M.Sc. in Chemistry and Physics are also eligible.

For West Bengal University of Technology, candidates with M.Sc. in Bioengineering are also eligible.

For Cochin University of Science and Technology, candidates with M.Sc in Marine Biotechnology, Marine Biology/Aquatic Biology and Fisheries, Environmental Biotechnology are also eligible.

Reservation/concession

Reservation:15%, 7½% and 3% of seats shall be reserved for SC/ST/PH candidates respectively. All the SC/ST and PH candidates who have passed the qualifying examination are eligible to apply irrespective of their percentage of marks in the qualifying degree examination. OBC reservation, wherever applicable, will be implemented as per the policy of each participating University.

Concession for Kashmiri Migrants: 10% marks will be added to the overall marks scored by a Kashmiri Migrant candidate in the entrance examination. After adding 10% marks, in case he/she is covered in the cut-off point in the merit list, he/she will be offered admission strictly in accordance with his/her inter-se merit along with other candidates subject to his/her meeting the minimum prescribed eligibility requirements and also subject to his/her producing valid registration documents issued by the notified authorities certifying the candidate’s Kashmiri Migrant status.

Tuition fee/scholarship

Fee shall be charged from the admitted candidates as per the fee structure of the concerned university. Candidates selected for admission are generally eligible for scholarship at the rates prescribed by the Dept. of Biotechnology.

Eligibility
Minimum Essential Educational Qualification FOR JBT CET:

The minimum essential educational qualifications for CET is Senior Secondary School Certificate or Intermediate or 10+2 or its equivalent examination with at least 50% marks for non-graduates and 45% marks for graduates. However, for the purpose of computing percentage of marks, the candidates with at least 49.5% and 44.5% in 10+2 or its equivalent examination for non graduates and graduates respectively shall be eligible to apply and appear for the JBT CET 2009-2011.

The candidates who would be appearing in the qualifying examination but whose results would be declared later on can also apply but their eligibility for the saidEntrance Test will be purely provisional subject to the condition that they-have to produce passing certificate scoring the percentage at least prescribed thereto in the qualifying examination on the day of counselling.
Age Limit
The age limit shall be 17-28 years as on 31.12.2009 for all candidates.
Relaxation in upper age limit shall be available as per the rules of the Government of Himachal Pradesh.
The following conditions will also be applicable to the candidates of Two Years Course/ Session 2009-2011:
1. 90% attendance would be necessary in the JBT training course.
2. 45% will be the pass marks in JBT Examinations of the 1st Year and 2nd Year.
3. Merit and seniority will be on the basis of the marks secured in the JBT pass course.
4. In case the trainees take leave on medical grounds/ maternity purpose then the training may be extended by the duration of leave taken.
5. During the training the candidates would not pursue any other
Educational course/study either regular or through distance mode.
6. Since contractual appointment will be considered alter passing of JBT course and subject to permission to fill up vacancies, hence, no bond will be executed to serve in the Education Department.
7. After successful completion of JBT Course as above conditions, the candidates are eligible for employment against vacant posts of JBT teacher in Elementary Education Department. Actual appointment will be based on vacancies and necessary approvals to fill the posts. As per present policy fresh appointments are being made on contract.

The award of Junior Research Fellowship (NET) to the successful eligible candidates will depend on their finding admission/placement in a university/national laboratory/institution of higher learning and research, as applicable

A candidate may apply either for ‘JRF + Lectureship’ both or for ‘Lectureship (LS) only’ He/She may indicate his/her preference in the O.M.R. Application Form/Online Application, as the case may be. CSIR may consider candidates applying for ‘JRF + LS’ for ‘Lectureship only’ depending on number of fellowships available and performance in the test subject to the condition that they fulfill the laid down eligibility criterion. If a candidate is found to be over-age for JRF (NET) he/she will automatically be considered for Lectureship (NET) only.

Two separate merit lists, one comprising the candidates qualifying for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF – NET) and the second of those candidates qualifying the Eligibility Test for Lectureship (NET), will be made on the basis of their performance in the above Test. Candidates qualifying for JRF (NET), will also be eligible for Lectureship (NET). The candidates qualifying for Lectureship will be eligible for recruitment as Lecturers as well as for JRF-ship in a Scheme/Project, if otherwise suitable as per the eligible criteria of that Scheme/Project. Education Qualification
M.Sc or equivalent degree under the subjects mentioned above, with minimum 55% marks for General and OBC candidates; 50% for SC/ST candidates, Physically and Visually Handicapped candidates and Ph.D. degree holders who had passed Master’s degree prior to 19th September 1991.

A candidate can also apply for the Test under RA (Result Awaited) category, if he/she is appearing or has appeared in his/her final year (III/IV Semester where Semester system is there) of M.Sc. or equivalent degree examination in subjects mentioned in above during the academic session 2009-2010. Such candidates will have to submit the attestation format (given at the reverse of the application form) duly certified by the Head of the Deptt./Institute over his/her signature and rubber stamp (with address and name) from where the candidate is appearing or has appeared in the final year M.SC or equivalent degree examination. However, such candidates shall be admitted to the Test provisionally. They shall only be considered eligible for JRF-(NET)/LS-(NET), if they are able to produce the proof of having passed the Master’s Degree examination in the relevant or related subject with the requisite percentage of marks and within the stipulated time frame.

Age limit and relaxation
For JRF (NET): Minimum 19 years and maximum 28 years as on 01.07.2009 (upper age limit may be relaxed up to 5 years as in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC, Physically handicapped/Visually handicapped and female applicants.

For LS (NET): Minimum 19 years as on 01.07.2010. No upper age limit.
Date and scheme of the CSIR UGC Test
The test will be held in two sessions on Sunday, the 20th June 2010. The scheme of Examination as under

Negative marking will be made for wrong answers in Paper I. Paper II will be evaluated only in case of those candidates who will be able to secure a minimum of such aggregate marks in Paper-I as may be fixed by the CSIR.

Candidates are required to appear in both the papers. A candidate who does not appear in Paper I will not be permitted to appear in Paper II. The questions in papers-I & II will appear both in Hindi and English.

How to apply

Option I: Apply through ‘Information Bulletin’

By hand: Candidates applying for the test may obtain the Information bulletin and application forms (inclusive of fee payable) through the branches of the Bank notified below in para 5.4 (within the prescribed dates) by paying the following fee in cash

Rs. 200/- or Rs. 100/- (as the case may be) drawn in favour of ‘Indian Bank, West Patel Nagar, New Delhi’ payable at New Delhi. For this purpose, the candidate should send a request to the Bank with two self-addressed slips clearly mentioning the address at which he/she desires the Information Bulletin and application form to be sent by Value Payable Post (VPP). As above mentioned Bank will entertain the request for forms through post from Tuesday, the 25th August, 2009 to Wednesday, the 16th September 2009 only, hence, candidates are advised to send well in advance so as to reach their request within the above said period. The candidate should write his/her name, Date of Birth, address, date of Examination (20.12.2009) and subject code on the back of the Demand Draft so that it can be located easily, if it gets detached accidentally from the letter of request for supply of Information Bulletin. Option II: Apply through online application

Interested and eligible candidates may apply for this test online through a link available at CSIR, HRDG website: www.csirhrdg.res.in. In order to apply Online the candidates are required to download Bank challan performa from the above website and then deposit the requisite examination fee in any of the Indian Bank branches through out the country. The examination fee for the online application is same as mentioned above. Candidates after successfully submitting application online are required to take print out of the application form, paste his/her recent black and white photograph, put his/her signature at the required space, attach requisite certificates an send along with CSIR marked copy of fee deposited bank challan in an envelop to Sr. Controller of Examinations, Human Resource Development Group, Examination Unit, CSIR complex, library avenue, Pusa, New Delhi-110012 so as to reach on or before 29.09.2009 (06.10.2009 for remote areas). Online applications with out hard copy or bank challan receipt of incomplete in any respect will be summarily rejected. Before applying Online, candidates are advised to go through detailed notification available at CSIR, HRDG website.

Examination fee paid along with the Information bulletin or through bank challan for a particular examination will neither be adjusted for any subsequent examination nor refunded under any circumstances. Similarly, candidates should also check all the column of bank challan, online application, which are to be filled in properly to avoid cancellation of application. The Kotla came under cloud after the fifth One-day International between India and Sri Lanka was abandoned because of the ‘unfit’ pitch, as ICC match referee Alan Hurst dubbed it.

The ICC accepted Hurst’s findings but decided not to penalise Kotla between one-two years or fine as per its rule, giving the benefit of doubt since this was the first time that Kotla pitch has come in for any harsh criticism or scrutiny.

‘While the pitch was unfit for international cricket, it is also worth bearing in mind that it is the first time the Ferozeshah Kotla pitch has been rated as unfit, that the ground has a long history of successfully hosting international cricket and that it is scheduled to host matches at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011,’ said ICC’s general manager David Richardson.

In any case, no international matches were scheduled at Kotla for the reminder of this year.

The decision was made by Richardson and chief match referee Ranjan Madugalle after examining both the match referee’s (Alan Hurst) report and the submissions from the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI), and after considering all the evidence, including studying video footage of the match.

The ICC pitch consultant will inspect the Ferozeshah Kotla ground as soon as possible and oversee a programme of remedial work throughout 2010 designed to ensure the pitch returns to the standard required to host international cricket, in particular, matches in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 as planned, the ICC said.

The decision was relayed to the BCCI Thursday.

‘As part of its investigation, the ICC received a submission from the BCCI assuring it that no international match is scheduled and therefore no international match will be played at the ground until the end of 2010.

‘We acknowledge and endorse the decision by the BCCI not to schedule any international cricket at the ground prior to the end of 2010, which is consistent with our own finding and within the parameters of the relevant regulations that apply,’ Richardson said.

‘We understand that turf pitches, by their very nature, are not and cannot be expected to always behave predictably and that an occasional delivery of unexpected steep bounce, while not ideal especially for limited-overs cricket, is part of the game.’

ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat said the council was confident that necessary remedial work would be carried out ahead of next year’s World Cup.

‘It is important now that the work should be carried out and domestic cricket played on the pitch to make sure it returns to the standards required for high-level international cricket.’

‘Let’s not forget, this ground is one of the world’s iconic venues and it’s imperative it stages matches during what is the game’s biggest tournament,’ he said.

Delhi and District Cricket Association heaved a sigh of relief that the ICC did not impose a ban on the Kotla nor any fine.

‘It’s not a ban. There is no fine. We are confident of holding the World Cup matches. There are no international matches scheduled till December 2010 so its okay for us. We are still awaiting the official letter from the ICC,’ DDCA vice-president Chetan Chauhan told IANS.

‘The work to rectify the pitch is going on. It will be ready in another month and a half and we will be holding the IPL matches. In fact, ICC offered us to help with the curators and we welcome that.’

The Indians, who needed to pick up eight wickets on the last day, took just about two sessions to wrap up the game and make amends for their disappointing batting show in the first innings.

Chasing an improbable 415-run victory target, the hosts resumed on 67 for two and rode on Rahim’s gutsy 101 and Tamim Iqbal’s gritty 52 before folding for 301 in 75.2 overs.

Amit Mishra (4/92), Ishant Sharma (3/48), and Zaheer Khan (2/90) struck at regular intervals to bowl out the hosts at the Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

The baby-faced Rahim threw his bat at everything hurled at him but that was merely a desperate attempt by a number seven batsman to delay the inevitable.

‘Rangoli’ is a Sanskrit word which means a creative expression of art through the use of color.The word rangolirangoli may also have come from “rang” (color) + “aavalli” (row), which means row of colors, or from rang+avalli, which means creepers of colors. Basically, Rangoli is the art of drawing images and motifs on the floor and walls of one’s home using different color powders. The Rangoli designs are passed down through generations, with some of them being hundreds of years old. Though the designs vary in different sections of India, the basic approach is common. The designs are geometric and proportioned. It has been a tradition in culturally rich India to draw Rangoli on the festivals and other auspicious occasions as it is considered a holy ritual. There is a unique relationship between the festival of diwali and rangoli. The patterns are made with finger using rice powder, crushed lime stone, or colored chalk. They may be topped with grains, pulses, beads, or flowers. LUCKNOW, India — Four trains collided Saturday in two separate accidents caused by dense winter fog in northern India, killing five people and injuring about 50 others, police and railway officials said.

The first accident took place near the town of Etawah, about 170 miles (270 kilometers) southwest of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh state, when a train entering a station rammed another train that had stopped there. Ten people, including the driver of one of the trains, were injured, according to Brij Lal, a senior police official.

A second similar accident occurred near Kanpur, about 60 miles (100 kilometers) southwest of Lucknow, and left five people dead and about 40 others injured, some seriously, district magistrate Anil Sagar said.

“Both these accidents were due to dense fog,” said railway official N.K. Srivastava. He said the trains were traveling at low speeds in both accidents.

Fog, which is a usual winter occurrence across northern India, has disrupted railway schedules across Uttar Pradesh, Srivastava said.

Fog also delayed dozens of domestic and international flights in and out of New Delhi, the Press Trust of India news agency reported.

At the age of fourteen she was approached by an agent and she began modeling; her first job was for a jewelry campaign. She continued modeling in London, under a contract with the Models Agency and did campaigns for houses, such as La Senza and Arcadius and even walked on the London Fashion Week.

Kaif’s London modeling-work led her to discover by London-based filmmaker Kaizad Gustad, who gave her a part in his film Boom (2003). She moved to Mumbai and was offered a number of modeling assignments. However, filmmakers were initially hesitant to sign her because she could not speak Hindi.

Kaif saw success with the 2005 film Sarkar where she played the bit part of Abhishek Bachchan’s girlfriend. Her next release, Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya (2005), where she was paired opposite Salman Khan, earned her the Stardust Breakthrough Performance Award.

In 2007, Kaif appeared in the hit movie Namastey London, wherein she starred as a British-Indian girl alongside Akshay Kumar for the second time after the box office dud Humko Deewana Kar Gaye (2006). Since then, she had appeared in a series of box office hits that include Apne, Partner and Welcome.

PAPER I:
This paper shall be of 2 hours and 30 minutes duration and shall have a maximum of 200 marks.

Part ‘A’ of Paper I shall contain 40 General Science questions. These questions shall be common to all subject areas of NET Examination. A candidate shall be required to answer a maximum of 25 questions from Part ‘A’. In case, a candidate answers more than 25 questions, only the first 25 answered questions will be taken up for evaluation.
Part ‘B’ of Paper I shall have 100 questions. A candidate shall be required to answer a maximum of 75 questions. In case a candidate answers more than 75 questions, only the first 75 answered questions shall be evaluated. All questions shall be of two marks each. There will be negative marking for wrong answers.

PAPER II:

This paper shall be of 2 hours and 30 minutes duration and shall have a maximum of 200 marks This Paper shall consist of 35-40 short answer type questions requiring descriptive answers. Question No. 1 shall be compulsory and carries 20 marks. In addition to the compulsory question, the candidate is required to answer a maximum of 12 questions of fifteen marks each. To answer each question, a candidate will be provided one page each.

1. CSIR will hold the Joint CSIR-UGC Test on Sunday, the 20th December 2009 for determining the eligibility of the Indian national candidates for the award of Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) NET and for determining eligibility for appointment of Lecturers (NET) in certain subject areas falling under the faculty of Science. The award of Junior Research Fellowship (NET) to the successful eligible candidates will depend on their finding admission/placement in a university/ national laboratory/ institution of higher learning and research, as applicable.

1.1 A candidate may apply either for ‘JRF + Lectureship’ both or for ‘Lectureship (LS) only’ He/she may indicate his/her preference in the O.M.R Application Form/Online Application, as the case may be. CSIR may consider candidates applying for ‘JRF + LS’ for ‘Lectureship only” depending on number of fellowships available& performance in the test subject to the condition that they fulfill the laid down eligibility criterion . If a candidate is found to be over-age for JRF (NET) he/she will automatically be considered for Lectureship (NET) only.

1.2 Two separate merit lists, one comprising the candidates qualifying for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF – NET) and the second, of those candidates qualifying the Eligibility Test for Lectureship (NET), will be made on the basis of their performance in the above Test. Candidates qualifying for JRF (NET), will also be eligible for Lectureship (NET). The candidates qualifying for Lectureship will be eligible for recruitment as Lecturers as well as for JRF-ship in a Scheme/Project, if otherwise suitable as per the eligibility criteria of that Scheme/Project. However they will not be eligible for Regular JRF-NET Fellowship. They will be eligible to pursue Ph.D. programme with or without any fellowship other than JRF-NET. Candidates qualifying for the award of JRF (NET) will receive fellowship either from CSIR or UGC as per their assignment or from the Schemes with which they may find association. The candidates declared eligible for Junior Research Fellowship under UGC scheme will be governed by UGC rules/regulations in this regard.

1.3 The final result of this test may be declared sometime in the month of March 2010 and fellowship to successful candidates could be awarded from 01.07. 2010. The result of Paper-I of last June, 2009 NET held on 21.06.2009 has been declared and may be seen on our website.
